* Summary : For centuries the Silk Road was the thread that linked the East and West. From as early as 200 BC the silk merchants of Xi’an set off with their camel caravans on the long trek to distant Constantinople while some adventurous pioneers such as Marco Polo went to the east to see this mysterious ancient country. This tour allows you to follow in their footsteps and to trace the legendary route taken by Marco Polo. With the inclusion of exotic places like Urumqi, Kashgar and Turpan, all improved expedition along the northern path of the Silk Road features Central Asia’s most historic, dramatic and splendid scenery. Moreover, you will have opportunities to experience local cultures in some of the oasis towns populated by minority people in Dunhuang.

Daily Itinerary :

Day 01 Home- - Shanghai
Transfer via: TBA, on your own arrangement.
Arrive in Shanghai. Be met & transferred to your hotel. Free at leisure for the rest of day.

Day 02 Shanghai - - Urumqi (B/L)
Visit the famous Jade Buddha Temple with a 2m high sitting white Jade Buddha and the 400-year old Yu Yuan Garden, decorated with masterpieces of Ming architecture, as well as the Old Town & the Bund. Take an evening flight to Urumqi. Arrive in Urumqi. Be met & transferred to the hotel with your private guide & vehicle.

Day 03 Urumqi (B/L)
After breakfast, enjoy an excursion to Tian chi Lake by boat, nestled in the Tianshan Mountain range. Return to Urumqi after lunch and take a city tour, which gives you a glimpse of the major sights of this northwestern city. Populated by Han people and thirteen ethnic minorities, Urumqi is quite different from the usual Chinese street scene. Here you can see Nomadic Khazakhs, a Middle Eastern bazaar, a jade-carving center and more.

Day 04 Urumqi - - Kashgar (B/L)
Today's full day excursion takes you to the pasture located in the Southern Mountains where you will visit local herds. Take an evening flight to Kashgar, a commercial center connecting China and the outside world for 2000 years. Arrive in Kashgar. Be met & transferred to the hotel with your private guide & vehicle.

Day 05 Kashgar Urumqi (B/L)
After breakfast, head directly to the Great Bazaar, alive with storybook scenes: thousands of merchants haggling for camels, carpets and other native goods; imams on donkeys and veiled women in their black robes. After wandering the Great Bazaar, you will visit the Idigar Mosque, one of the largest mosques in China, and the Abakh Khoja Tomb. Take an evening flight to Urumqi. Arrive in Urumqi. Be met & transferred to the hotel with your private guide & vehicle.

Day 06 Urumqi - bus - Turpan (B/L)
Travel overland about 3 hours to Turpan in the morning, where you will check into the hotel. Take a sightseeing of Gaochang, the ancient walled capital of the Uighurs which flourished between the 7th century and 14th century, and the ruins of Jiaohe City, where plenty of large fragments of actual streets and buildings remain. You'll also visit Grape Valley, in lush contrast to the desert surrounding it, and the amazing 2,000 year old Karez System of Irrigration, which brought water from melting snow on the mountains to this parched city.

Day 07 Turpan - train - Jiayuguan (B/L)
A morning tour includes the Flaming Mountains, named for their vibrant color, Suliman's Minaret and a local village. Take a comfortable soft-sleeper overnight train to Jiayuguan.

Day 08 Jiayuguan (B/L)
Arrive in Jiayuguan and visit the old fortress standing at the westernmost point of the Great Wall. Visit Jiayuguan Gate Tower, Hanging Cliff Great Wall and the Tombs in the Wei and Jin Dynasty (about 1200 years ago). Climb up this historic "Last Guard House" which guards the pass between two mountain ranges. This famous pass has been the subject of poems and ballads for centuries. Stay overnight in Jiayuguan.

Day 09 Jiayuguan - train - Dunhuang (B/L)
After breakfast transfer overland 4 hours to Dunhuang. Drive through the Gobi Desert and grasslands en route. You'll see the beautiful landscape along the Silk Road. Stay overnight in Dunhuang.

Day 10 Dunhuang (B/L)
Take an excursion to the Mogao Grottoes, the world's richest treasure trove of Buddhist manuscripts and art. Begun in 386AD and added to over the next 9 centuries, the grottoes are totally over 45,000 square meters and boast over 2,000 murals and sculptures. Continue to the Mingsha Sand Dunes and take a camel ride to the Crescent Moon Lake.

Day 11 Dunhuang - - Xi'an (B/L)
Take a morning flight to Xi'an. Be met & transferred to your hotel. Visit the Provincial Museum, the Ancient City Wall and the Bell Tower.

Day 12 Xi'an (B/L)
You will have a whole day visit to the famous historical site of the Qin Terracotta Warriors. More than 6000 life -sized terracotta figures of soldiers and horses in perfect battle array show the superb sculptural art of that time. Afterwards, visit the Wild Goose Pagoda.

Day 13 Xi'an - - Beijing (B/L)
Take a morning flight to Beijing. Half a day city tours includes visit the Tian'anmen Square - the biggest public square in the world and Forbidden City (GuGong in Chinese) which is used to be the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, now known as the Palace Museum.

Day 14 Beijing (B/L)
A memorable daylong excursion combines the soul-stirring Great Wall that across northern China like a winding dragon with the Sacred Way, guarded by sculpted stone animal both real and fabulous, which are photographers’ delight. Finally, visit the Ming Tomb.

Day 15 Beijing - - Home (B)
Visit the Temple of Heaven, the place for the emperors to worship the God (heaven) for good harvest in ancient China. Free at leisure until to be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
