Mount Emei is four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism, together with Mount Wutai in Shanxi Province, Mount Putuo in Zhejiang, and Mount Jiuhua in Anhui. Many of the mountain's shrines and temples are dedicated to Samantabhadra (known in Chinese as Puxian).

Mount Emei rises in the southwest part of Sichuan Basin in Emei City of Sichuan Province, lies in the upstream of the Yangtze River, stands between the Dadu River and Qingyi Jiang, 7 km southwest of Mount Emei City, 37 kilometers east from Leshan City, is a famous Buddhist mountain and tourism resort. Mount Emei is called the ¡°mountain of brightness¡± in Buddhism. It is also an area of natural beauty into which the human element together with Buddhist culture has been integrated.

Its highest peak Wanfo Ding is 3,079.3 meters above sea level. The loty mountain is covered with a dense growth of plants and verdant vegetation, famous for its grandeur and natural beauty. There are dozens of Buddhist temples on Mount Emei, inside there are many exquisite collections of Buddhist treasures. Many Buddhists especially the eldly take great efforts to climb up the peak step by step for decades of days. It is the magnet that draws the majority of them across oceans, after several twists and turns to come to realize their dreams.
