
On 25 January, China tourism delegation, led by Zhu Shanzhong, Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), attended the 9th ASEAN & China-Japan-Korea Ministerial Conference on Tourism held in Brunei. Also present at the meeting were tourism ministers or vice tourism ministers of Japan, South Korea and the ten countries of ASEAN.
At the conference, Vice Chairman Zhu Shanzhong introduced to the participants the cooperation in tourism between China and ASEAN countries in 2009 and tourism programs that China plans to cooperate with ASEAN countries in 2010. He also introduced how China's Tourism Industry had actively dealt with the challenges brought by the global financial crisis and influenza A/H1N1 to achieve the pattern of ¡°increase in the overall volume, two rises and one drop¡±. He stressed that China could not develop its Tourism Industry without cooperating with the tourism circles of all countries in the world including ASEAN countries, and was willing to share opportunities for development with ASEAN nations. Vice Chairman Zhu welcomed the guests from ASEAN countries to visit 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and publicize tourism resources by making the fullest use of the platform of the Expo.
Ministers of the countries present at the meeting gave active response to the speech of Vice Chairman Zhu. They fully affirmed the efforts China had made in promoting its tourism cooperation with ASEAN, and congratulated China on its achievements in developing Tourism Industry. Ministers of tourism of Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia and other countries all said that China is the important source market for ASEAN countries, and they highly appreciated the responsible attitude Chinese Government took in the face of crisis. Malaysian Minister of Tourism Ng Yen Yen expressed her wish to make use of the opportunity offered by Expo 2010 and hold tourism promotion activities such as ¡°Night of Tourism in ASEAN¡± during the Expo.
