Located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province, the beautiful Mount Lushan is a famous world-class mountain. The Mount Lushan scenic area covers 382 square kilometers totally, and the Mountain covers 282 square kilometers. As its main peak, Big Hanyang Peak is 1474 meters above the sea level. It is close to Poyang Lake in the east, against Tengwang Pavilion of Nanchang in the south, near to the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, the main artery of railways in the west and the surging Yangtze River in the north. Ever since Sima Qian ¡°climbed the Mount Lushan from the south¡±, more than 1,500 literary giants, such as, Tao Yuanming, Li Bai, Bai Juyi, Su Shi, Wang Anshi, Huang Tingjian, Lu You, Zhu Xi, Kang Youwei, Hu Shi and Guo Moruo have climbed it and left more than 4000 pieces of poems and odes, which establish it as a famous culture mountain. Huiyuan built Donglin Temple and founded ¡°Dharmaparyaya of the Sukhavati Sect¡±; the Mountain becomes a sacred site for the religions of Buddhist, Taoism, Catholicism, Christian, and Islam. Huxiansu founded the first subtropical mountain botanical garden in China; and Li Siguang founded the theory of ¡°Quaternary Glacier¡±. Mount Lushan became the ¡°capital in summer¡± of National Government in the middle of last century; and its status of famous politic mountain has been established¡¡.
